Midlands Hurricanes set for historic first match

Midlands Hurricanes are set to feature in their first ever game this evening.

The club face York tonight, Friday, January 7, in a pre-season friendly. It will be the club’s first match since their rebrand from Coventry. 

The Bears, founded in 1998, changed their name to during the off-season to Midlands Hurricanes. It comes under a new parent company in an attempt to develop a regional brand.

Head coach Richard Squires committed his future to the club for the 2022 campaign, continuing his work from Coventry.

The club have secured a new interim home for the 2022 season at Birmingham & Solihull Bees RFC’s Forshaw Heath Lane Ground, Portway, Birmingham.

They face Championship’s York at the LNER Stadium in their first hit-out as a new side at 7:30pm.

Signings

The club have added several new faces to their squad for the 2022 League 1 season, including former Sheffield and Doncaster player Jordan Bull.

They also recently announced the re-signings of Harry Kaufman, Brad Sheridan and Will Budd.

AJ Boardman makes the move from Hunslet. Additionally, local prop Trae O’Sullivan has made the step up to the League 1 competition.
