Mickey Higham retains Leigh captaincy

Leigh head coach John Duffy has named hooker Mickey Higham as his club captain with Martyn Ridyard his vice-captain.

Both are experienced players who between them have played over 350 games for the Centurions. Higham returned to his role as captain in July last year after taking over from Harrison Hansen, who joined Widnes.

About his decision, Duffy said: “Micky [Higham] fits the bill for this important role and is honoured to once again captain his home town club. His leadership skills are outstanding and he continues to lead by example on and off the pitch.

“He has everyone’s respect and has led from the front throughout the pre-season. Martyn [Ridyard] has had a season away at Featherstone and he can’t wait to pull a Leigh shirt on again.

“This will be his tenth season playing for his hometown club and there’s no one prouder man than him in playing for Leigh.”

Leigh are looking for a similar set up to the leadership team at Wigan, with Duffy also adding: “Micky [Higham] and Martyn [Ridyard] will form the core of a leadership group at the club which will also include a few other members of the playing squad.”
