Michael Shenton wants Castleford to “get back to the magic” in 2020

Castleford captain Michael Shenton says his side want to get back to their “classy” reputation this year.

The Tigers finished the 2019 regular season in fifth position and were knocked out of the play-offs by Salford in the quarter-finals.

Castleford have enjoyed a fine start to the 2020 campaign, having won four from their first six matches and they currently sit in third.

Shenton said: “We want to get back to the magic.

“We don’t feel like we got to express ourselves last year, and injuries and things like that did not help.

“We’ve got to forget about that, move on and re-develop and change ourselves a little bit and have a better year this year.

“We have two promising half-backs and two of the best in Danny Richardson and Jake Trueman, and Paul McShane is one of the smartest in the game as well.

“We’re fortunate, with Jordan Rankin and Peter Matu’utia as well. The spine of our team is looking really strong and have that balance of experience and young and that the young people in there are hungry and want to impress.”
