Foxy Bingo caught up with Michael Shenton, ahead of a big game for Castleford Tigers this weekend…

As the battle for a place in the top four continues, the Tigers head to Hull on Sunday hoping to secure an important away win. But closer to home, Foxy Bingo were keen to hear from Michael on his experience of a special lady who is always going the extra mile at Castleford.

The Tigers captain made his nomination for unsung hero and rugby league super fan, Elsie Jarvis who has played a crucial role in maintaining the club for the last 22 years. Elsie, who turns 70 next week, was Michael’s choice for the award, which aims to recognise ladies that are going above and beyond in the rugby league community.

Michael surprised Elsie this afternoon at the Jungle Stadium to thank her for her tireless contribution to the club, be it selling programmes, fundraising, setting up for events or cleaning the bar!

“It’s great that Foxy Bingo is recognising some very important women through Ladies of the League this year,” he said.

“I urge everyone to nominate and get behind Elsie”.

Elsie was presented with a signed Super League ball, and stuck around for a chat with Michael about the Super League games this weekend.

“Thank you for nominating me, I thought I was coming down to do some work but this is a great surprise!” she smiled.

Whilst Elsie is one of a kind, Foxy Bingo are looking to hear about other grassroots coaches, match organisers, fans or female players that have a passion for the rugby league.

Nominations close on Friday 31st July, voting for the top 10 nominees opens on 4th August.

The winner and five worthy ladies will be selected by our panel of Super League judges to attend the Man of Steel Awards. The winner receives £1000 in holiday vouchers as well as a £1000 donation to a club or community project of her choice.
