England international hooker Michael McIlorum has signed a new one-year deal with Catalans Dragons for the 2023 season.

The 34-year-old has scored eight tries in 95 appearances for the Dragons since arriving in the south of France from Wigan in 2018.

McIlorum helped the Dragons win the Challenge Cup at Wembley in 2018 and was part of the side that reached the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford in 2021.

McIlorum said: “I’m very happy to be playing on again next year with the Dragons.

“It was an easy decision to stay and be a part of this group for another year as me and my partner Olivia love living here and see this as our home.

“The fans and people in this region have been very welcoming and kind to us since we arrived and we our thankful for that.

“I have enjoyed my time here over the past five years and it is pleasing to see the progression the club has made in the short time I have been here. I hope this continues next year and we are challenging to be in the finals which I feel we are more than capable of achieving this with the group we will have next year.

“Thank you to all the supporters who have supported the team and myself throughout my time here and we will be doing our best to bring some silverware back to Perpignan. Thanks to Bernard (Guasch, owner) for his continued trust in me and the team as always.”

Catalans boss delighted to retain Michael McIlorum

Dragons coach Steve McNamara said: “Micky’s form this year has been exceptional resulting in him not only being awarded the Players’ Player of the Year and the Coaches Player of the Year but also a return into the England team for the World Cup.

“He is as fit and healthy as ever and we are delighted he will continue with us for another season.”
