Menzies could still play on for another year

Super League‘s oldest player, Steve Menzies, says he still hasn’t totally ruled out playing on next season.

Menzies, 39, continues to put in top-drawer performances week in, week out for Catalan, five years after coming to Super League with Bradford, and now in his 21st season as a professional.

He said: “There’s a small chance – maybe a 20 per cent chance – I could play on.

“I’m thinking this is probably going to be my last year but I’ll get through this Easter period and then have a think. I just want to make sure that I don’t want to play again.”

The Australian has been a key figure in big wins over Widnes and Bradford in recent weeks, and is likely to be in contention for a place in Brian McClennan’s Exiles squad.

He has now made over 100 appearances in Super League, to add to more than 340 appearances for Manly and Northern Eagles in the NRL.

Before 2006, the back-rower also played 19 times for Australia, scoring 18 tries, and made 20 State of Origin appearances for New South Wales.
