McManus called up for Origin

Newcastle’s James McManus will replace the injured Jarryd Hayne in next week’s crucial State of Origin decider.

McManus, 27, has scored five tries in the Kinights’ last two games, prompting a recall into the Blues squad after the team doctors today ruled Hayne out with a hamstring injury.

It has been four years since McManus last made the New South Wales team but coach Laurie Daley says he will bring lenty of experience to the wing.

Daley said, “James is in good form, he’s been there before.

“When we looked at the contribution value rating, he’s the best in terms of what he brings to the table with the wingers, all wingers in the competition, and he adds a bit of size out wide.”
