McLocklan joins Scorpions

South Wales Scorpions have strengthened their squad for the Gateshead Thunder clash at The Gnoll this Sunday by signing Joe McLocklan who was released from York City Knights last month.

McLocklan becomes the second former York player to join the Scorpions in the last month following Casey Bromilow‘s transfer. By coincidence, both players scored tries for York against the Scorpions earlier this season.

However unlike Bromilow, McLocklan will not move down to Wales. He will continue to be based in Hull and will commute alongside fellow Englishman and star half-back Loz Wildbore, another former York player.

Scorpions coach Anthony Seibold said: “We needed to bring in a bit more strength for the end of season run which starts this Sunday when we take on Gateshead Thunder at The Gnoll. There are few injuries both here and at the Crusaders, which has a knock-on effect for us meaning that our dual-registered players may be unavailable.

“We have also lost Loz and Liam (Roach) for two matches due to their ban. Joe is a good player but he recently found himself without a club so we’re giving him a chance for the rest of 2010. We’re looking forward to seeing him in action.”
