Penrith prop Sam McKendry faces a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a fractured neck in the victory over Parramatta.

New Zealand international McKendry is thought to have suffered the injury early in Monday night’s match at Centrebet stadium trying to tackle Eels centre Jacob Loko.

Amazingly, McKendry played on for around ten minutes before being replaced and even returned for a short spell in the second half of the home team’s 44-12 victory.

In a statement released by the Panthers officials confirmed Mckendry suffered “a stable C6 vertebrae fracture.”

“Sam will see a specialist on Friday to discuss management of the injury,” the statement said.

It is not clear if McKendry’s playing future is in doubt or how long he could be sidelined.
