Wigan have confirmed that Michael McIlorum has signed a new two-year deal at the club.

The hooker, originally from Leeds, has been at Wigan since 2005, and has progressed through the club’s youth structures.

“Having signed a new deal last year, I wasn’t really expecting this but I am flattered that the club rate me so highly. I didn’t hesitate to sign this new deal,” he told the club’s official website.

“Having been at Wigan for ten years, the place now feels like home. Like the rest of the team, I’m focused on finishing the season well and getting back to Old Trafford starting with a huge game this Friday against Leeds.”

Club chairman Ian Lenagan is pleased to have retained the services of such an important player.

“Having signed for the Academy in 2005, Michael has matured greatly and in recent years played a pivotal role in Wigan’s league and cup success,” he said.

“He is one of the finest Number 9’s in the sport and is known for his tough, uncompromising style. Michael is a model professional off the field and a fantastic role model for any young person.

“We are delighted to have secured his services for a further two years as we look to build further success around players like him.”
