Former Castleford and Salford utility Ryan McGoldrick has pulled out of the USA World Cup squad due to personal reasons.

McGoldrick, 32, joined up with the team earlier this week following their 22-18 win over France in Toulouse, but his withdrawal has now been announced before the start of the tournament on Saturday.

A Tomahawks statement said: “Ryan McGoldrick has been granted leave from the USA Tomahawks’ Rugby League World Cup camp due to personal reasons.

“McGoldrick is a valued member of the Tomahawks and has worked tirelessly to promote this tournament and USA rugby league.

“We look forward to seeing him in the red, white and blue again in the future.

“At this stage, the Tomahawks will play the tournament with a 23-man squad.”

McGoldrick, who was released by Salford earlier this month, made his first appearance for USA back in 2007.
