McGoldrick loses ban appeal

Castleford’s Ryan McGoldrick has lost his appeal against the one-match suspension handed down by the RFL Disciplinary Committee for kicking out in a tackle during his side’s Super League defeat at Wigan Warriors last Sunday.

McGoldrick was banned after admitting kicking Sam Tomkins in the face in the 9th-minute at DW Stadium but at an appeals hearing today the player  argued that the punishment was too severe given that another Super League player, Keith Senior of Leeds Rhinos, had avoided suspension when found guilty of a similar offence last week.

The hearing pointed out that Senior had not been in trouble for 10 years and that as McGoldrick had already received warning letters about kicking out in the tackle twice this season, the appeal was rejected.

As well as the original £300 fine, McGoldrick was ordered to pay the £200 costs of the appeals hearing.
