McDermott: We have to be better

Leeds coach Brian McDermott was far from pleased after the Rhinos finally won their first game of the season.

Leeds edged past Huddersfield 20-16 at Headingley.

“It wasn’t good was it,” McDermott told Sky.

“I thought it was a pretty scrappy performance from us. We’re not in the stages where I’m just glad we won, not yet. We need to be playing well and playing a lot better than we are.

“It wasn’t good. At times we were all over the place. We need to go again next week and get a performance from somewhere else next week. Because we certainly can’t build on that.”

The Rhinos suffered two more injuries with Ash Handley hurting his knee and Joel Moon picking up a hamstring complaint.

“That’s what happens,” McDermott said.

“We’re into the realms of possibly loan deals.”
