McCormack praises Wood attitude

Swinton coach Steve McCormack has praised the attitude of prop Paul Wood and his fellow dual-registered stars from Warrington.

Wood, 31, was a shock inclusion in the Lions’ squad for Sunday’s Championship opener against Workington, which they lost 14-10.

He was joined in the squad by fellow Wolves players Tyrone McCarthy and James Laithwaite, and McCormack is hoping to have the trio available again for this weekend’s trip to York.

McCormack said: “They have all been great in the dressing room.

Paul Wood trained with us all last week and his attitude was first class along with Tyrone McCarthy and James Laithwaite.

“It was their first taste of Championship rugby against Workington and they went away realising just how difficult this division is.

“Their effort was superb and if we get them back I am sure they will improve individually and they will make an even bigger impact on the team.”

Swinton, who announced a partnership with Warrington over the winter following the re-structure of the game below first team level, had 12 new faces in their 17-man squad on Sunday.
