Scotland coach Steve McCormack was very pleased with the way some of the nation’s young players responded, when called up to help the senior squad this week.

Seven of the best Scottish youngsters were invited to participate in a session, and helped provide part of the opposition for first-choice Scotland team in a practice game at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston on Tuesday.

“We’d identified who the best talents were from the Under-19s and Students over this season, having looked at their games, and asked them down,” McCormack explained.

“They did really well. There is some talent there coming through. We thought it important to cement those ties with the junior teams, and did it properly.

“We gave them tip sheets, went through the video, and had their coaches involved so everyone was learning.”

Scotland open their Four Nations campaign against Australia on Friday at Hull KR‘s KC Lightstream Stadium.
