Barrow have appointed Scotland boss Steve McCormack as their new head coach.

McCormack, who quit Gateshead Thunder earlier this week, takes over from Dave Clark, who guided the Raiders to success in the Championship Grand Final last month and will stay on at Craven Park as number two.

Clark also led Barrow to the league leaders shield and a Northern Rail Cup Final.

Barrow chairman Des Johnston said: “I have built up a very firm friendship and professional relationship with Steve over the past three to four years and I’m delighted he has accepted the position of head coach.

“He knows the club and staff very well and he will prove to be a major asset in the club’s progress.”

McCormack, who previously coached Salford, Whitehaven and Widnes, left Gateshead earlier this week due to uncertainty over the clubs future.
