The Scotland Rugby League have confirmed that 12 new match officials have become qualified, after they ran a successful course at Kirkcaldy RFC.

The course was run by RFL tutor and referee, Gavin Houston and, at the same time, three new tutors attended; Peter Lowis, Luke Fenton and Ollie Cruickshank.

Participants included representatives from Glasgow Panthers RLFC and Dundee Dragons Wheelchair RL club.

Cruickshank, who is also volunteer operations manager for Scotland Rugby League, said: “Developing the number of qualified match officials in Scotland is a vital part of our long term plan to sustain the sport. It was great to see so many people, we had all ages attending and most were new to Scotland Rugby League.”

Keith Hogg, chair of Scotland Rugby League, who also attended the course as a participant added: “This course is exactly what Scotland Rugby League is all about, increasing involvement with enthusiastic volunteers who want to contribute to the overall progression of rugby league in Scotland.”
