Martin Clawson disappointed with Barrow effort

Barrow Raiders’ assistant coach Martin Clawson admits his side are devastated after their performance against Widnes on Thursday night.

The Raiders lost 42-14 at the Stobart Stadium in front of the Sky Sports cameras during the week without their head coach Nigel Wright.

Clawson explained that Wright was stuck in traffic near Watford travelling up for the game, but conceded that Widnes were just too good for his side on the night.

He said: “In a two team game we came third in every aspect of the match. We were taught a lesson on how to run hard, how to tackle hard and we were beaten on the floor offensively and defensively.

“I thought Widnes played well and that’s the best I’ve seen of them this year by a country mile, but I thought we were average and made them look even better.

“We had won our last four league games and we were scratchy against Dewsbury in terrible conditions, but we trained really well yesterday and I thought our warm up was excellent. It’s smacked me in between the eyes, I’m thoroughly disappointed.”
