Mark Aston cautious of Doncaster despite Cooke absence

Mark Aston is not about to relax after it was revealed Paul Cooke may miss Doncaster’s home Northern Rail Cup tie against Sheffield.

Cooke will have a late fitness test on Sunday after injuring his ankle in the final tackle of Doncaster’s 29-18 defeat to York City Knights.

But Aston is not taking the Championship 1 team lightly due to Cooke’s absence.

Aston said: “Doncaster have recruited really well and we played them a few weeks ago in a friendly and had it tough.

“It’s a challenge for us and we’ll have to be good, but I’m sure we can do the job.”

Aston was furious with his team for an hour of the match, before the Eagles turned the tables on Leigh and won 23-22 despite being 22-0 down.

Aston said: “They talk about a game of two halves, but this was a game of four quarters, and we were rubbish in three of them.

“But to win like that shows character and spirit because we hadn’t been great.”
