Manly sack Hasler

Manly have sensationally sacked coach Des Hasler for an alleged breach of contract.

Hasler was stood down last week for apparently attempting to lure Sea Eagles coaching staff to the Bulldogs, where he will coach in 2012.

It appears that Hasler’s response to the allegations failed to satisfy the board.

A statement by club chairman, Scott Penn read: “We gave Des the opportunity to come back to the Board to explain his involvement and he has denied all allegations.

“The Board met this morning to discuss Des’s response and have concluded that there is strong evidence to the contrary and that his actions were in clear breach of his contract.

“We therefore had no alternative but to terminate his contract.

“The Board is disappointed that we were obliged to take this action.

“We would like to acknowledge the success Des has helped the Sea Eagles achieve during his tenure with the club.

“But the time has come for a fresh start.”

Geoff Toovey will take over from Hasler as head coach, effective immediately.
