Manly name strong WCC squad

Manly have named a full-strength squad for the World Club Challenge encounter with Leeds later this month.

Glenn and Brett Stewart, Anthony Watmough, Jamie Lyon, Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans and Steve Matai will all make the trip to the UK for the clash at Headingly on February 17.

David Williams returns to action after four months on the sidelines with a broken neck.

The two teams met in the competition final in 2009 with Manly walking away winners following a 28-20 victory over the Rhinos in a competitive encounter at Elland Road.

“We’re going over with the right attitude,” said coach Geoff Toovey. “We want to win.”

With Australia in the midst of summer and the UK experiencing some bitterley cold weather, Toovey suggests the temperatures will be a new experience for the players.

“We’re planning to go down to the beach, dump a whole heap of ice in the water and make the guys swim around in it then get out and try to pass the ball,” he joked.

“Just kidding, there’s not much you can do about the conditions.”
