Leeds stand-off Danny McGuire was delighted to win the Super League Grand Final with Leeds at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

But the delight was also tinged with sadness, as the Man of the Match also bade farewell to his two team-mates Jamie Peacock and Kevin Sinfield, who have now both ended their rugby league playing careers.

“We’ve played a lot of rugby together and it will be sad to see that the peg at the side of me won’t be there any more,” McGuire said of Sinfield to Sky Sports after the final whistle.

“But things move on, and Liam Sutcliffe is ready to step up to the plate.

“But we’ll definitely miss these guys.

“It’s great to finish like this, it’s a great place to play.”

McGuire was relieved to win what had been a tough and testing contest for the Rhinos in Manchester.

“It was a tough game. Wigan are a good side who put us under a lot of pressure,” he said.

“We stuck in there, and it was great for JP, Kylie and Kev to go out this way, they deserve it.”
