Makinson proud of St Helens achievement

Tommy Makinson has praised his St Helens teammates, after they won the League Leaders Shield for the first time since 2008.

Makinson, 22, scored a devastating 25 tries in 26 appearances as he earned a place in the 2014 Super League Dream Team, but he thinks that every member of the Saints squad deserves recognition.

“The league has been very close this year, and to win it despite injuries to key players like Jonny Lomax, Luke Walsh and Jon Wilkin is testament to the character of the squad,” said Makinson.

“Losing such on-field leaders has been hard, but we are a close-knit bunch and we have proved ourselves as worthy minor premiers.

“It means the world to me being named in the Dream Team, but everyone everyone deserves real credit, including the fans.

“They will no doubt pack out Langtree Park yet again on Friday so we need to perform, especially after what we put them through last weekend.”
