Magical Monaghan inspires Wire victory

Warrington hooker Michael Monaghan produced a superb performance this afternoon to help his side to a 39-12 victory over Wigan.

The Austalian was instrumental in the early stages and guided his side to a 24-0 lead after just 25 minutes, grabbing two tries in the process as well as a drop goal in the latter stages of the first half.

Brother Joel Monaghan also got on the scoresheet with a try, as did Matt King, Lee Briers and Jon Clarke. Chris Bridge was impeccable with the boot, kicking 7 out of 7, with Lee Briers also slotting a conversion over.

Wigan got on the scoresheet through veteran half back Paul Deacon in the first half and Sean O’Loughlin in the second half, although the Warriors were completely outclassed by their local rivals.

Warrington can win the league leaders shield with victory over Hull FC next weekend.
