Magic Weekend preview: Widnes v Wakefield

Matthew Crosby

It may be Wakefield Trinity that go into the opener of Magic Weekend as big favourites, but the 7/4 Widnes Vikings have a trick up their sleeve to avoid a fourth straight loss in all competitions.

Moving swiftly to sign controversial former man of steel Rangi Chase, the Vikings have added that much needed flair to a line-up that hasn’t been the same since the departure of Kevin Brown to rivals Warrington.

And whilst the league strugglers may be rock bottom of the table, a victory could move them ahead of Leigh Centurions should they fail to beat Salford.

The Trinity are big favourites for a reason though, having offered up a challenge to every side they’ve come up against. Wakefield currently sit just a point behind many people’s tip for title, Wigan Warriors in fifth.

With 4/9 far from a tempting price however, the -6 Wakefield handicap could well be the value bet at 5/6, especially if Chase doesn’t have the debut to remember for the Vikings.

Wakefield won a comfortable affair 30-4 last time they faced off, so 5/6 is a must bet if you fancy a similar result.
