Magic Weekend represents the perfect distraction for Bradford, according to captain Matt Diskin, whose side is looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat when they take on Huddersfield.
The Bulls went down 50-0 to a rampant St Helens in their last match and Diskin is looking forward to concentrating on the coming weekend, which he thinks offers Rugby League a different dimension.
“This game has come at the right time for us,” said Diskin. “We are just coming off a bad loss and we need something different to focus ourselves on, and there is nothing better than the Magic Weekend.
“It is a fantastic event. To play in a new stadium that you’re not used to and to get to play in front of really big crowds, it is something that every player looks forward to.
“Particularly those who don’t get to experience finals very often, this is the closest atmosphere you are going to get to it.
“From that aspect, it gives everybody a unique experience. And if you are a Rugby League fan as well, it is a great event. To bring the sport, as a whole to one stadium, and to have over 60,000 fans all sharing the same experience, it is all unique.
“Hopefully we get some decent weather again, the forecast is good so we’ll be looking to put in a performance that such a great stadium deserves.”
Diskin is aware that he and his fellow Bulls need to put in a strong performance against the 2013 League Leaders’ Shield winners, despite Huddersfield’s record not being quite as impressive as last summer’s so far.
“Huddersfield are a very, very good side,” said Diskin. “They have probably paid the penalty for how good they were last year and now every team that plays against them wants to knock them off their perch.
“To finish where they did last year was a fantastic achievement. But they have struggled for consistency a bit this year – and would probably admit to that themselves.
“But you look across the squad and they have got some real depth and some really big men knocking about, and they are going to be a challenge for us.”
