Luther Burrell set for Warrington debut

Rugby union convert Luther Burrell is set to make his Warrington debut at London this weekend.

Burrell, 31, arrived at the Halliwell Jones Stadium from Northampton Saints last month and was 18th man for the defeat to St Helens last week.

The 15-cap England union international is in line to make his professional bow in the 13-man code, having grown up playing the game.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m buzzing. I had a good week last week in the build-up to the St Helens game but I was 18th man for that one.

“So it would be nice if I feature from the start – it would also be a change from doing all the fitness training!”

“It’s been really good here. I had 10 days at the back end of my season with Northampton to get myself sorted and moved up, so it was quick, which was probably the best thing for me.

“The last four or five weeks have been quite intense, with training sessions and meetings as I needed to get myself up to speed as quickly as possible.

“However, I’m in a great group of lads who have experience of the very biggest games and occasions – if I’m slightly out of position, they’ll whip me into shape!

“They’re a class group, though. When I first came in it was a bit like the first day at a new school but I was sat in one corner of the changing rooms and a few of them were coming over to speak to me.

“There has been a bit of banter too but I’ve given as good as I’ve got!

“To be honest, it’s been quite easy to adapt. I’ve really enjoyed it, now I’m ready to go.”
