Lunt becomes a Giant

Huddersfield have signed 21-year-old Workington utility-back Shaun Lunt on a three-year full-time contract.nnThe Giants have paid an undisclosed fee for Lunt, who was the National League young player of the year in 2006 and 2007, and can play either hooker or half-back.nnHuddersfield’s Managing Director Richard Thewlis said: “We have followed Shaun’s progress for a number of years and he is highly rated as having real potential for the future.nn”He wanted a full-time environment and we are happy to provide him with an opportunity.”nnThewlis also suggested that Lunt may have some hard work ahead of him to make the Super League grade: “He is behind the mark in terms of players of a similar age who have been full time since 16, yet he has the advantage of playing senior rugby for longer so it will be interesting to see how he goes.nn”He is a long-term project player for us and fits in with our policies of giving people opportunities.”nnSpeaking to the Giants’ website, Lunt said: “There were a number of clubs who were showing an interest in me but, as soon as I knew Huddersfield were keen, I jumped at the chance to come.nn”They’ve got a fantastic reputation. Everyone can see they’re a club on the up, and their facilities speak for themselves.nn”At this stage, it’s just a case of getting my head down, working hard and biding my time to see what happens. I know there are a lot of players ahead of me in the pecking order here, but joining Huddersfield is still a dream move for me.
