St Helens and England prop Luke Thompson faces a further five weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Thompson, 23, missed the win over Catalans and a specialist has now confirmed syndesmosis of the ankle.

Coach Justin Holbrook told the club’s official website: “Thommo will be out for around six weeks from last week.

“He has a high ankle sprain which they call syndesmosis now.

“So between him Percy [Mark Percival] and Louie [McCarthy-Scarsbrook] they will all be around the six week mark which is when we are looking at getting those three back.”

Thompson was named in the 2018 Super League Dream Team, and was also part of Saints’ victorious 2014 Super League Grand Final side.

Meanwhile, there is positive news for Saints surrounding winger Tommy Makinson, who missed out last week with a back spasm.

Holbrook confirmed he will be available for the trip to Hull KR.
