Lovegrove ready to step up

test

Hull KR utility player Rhys Lovegrove is hoping to be given the chance to replace Cory Paterson on Rovers’ left hand side.

Lovegrove, 26, recently deputised for Paterson in the second row when his fellow Australian served a four match ban, and he thrived in the role scoring four tries.

With Paterson now ruled out for six weeks due to a knee injury, Lovegrove says he would like the chance to fill the void, believing it to be his best position in Craig Sandercock’s team.

“It’s my preferred position but we’ll see what we go with,” Lovegrove told the Hull Daily Mail.

“I enjoy it on the left hand side and if that’s where I’m put, I’ll play there.

“Losing Cory is a big loss for us because he was one of our form forwards.

“Fingers crossed he gets some better news shortly.”

Rovers are well placed to make the play-offs for the fourth time in five years and the squad will currently be enjoying some recovery time before their next game, away at Warrington on July 21.
