London considering reserve grade side

London Broncos are considering starting their own reserve grade team for the 2017 season.

London coach Andrew Henderson told Love Rugby League he wants the club to have a reserve grade side, but he is watiting to see what shape the reserve grade competition will take for the new campaign.

“Is it going to be a structured competition running next year in reserve grade?” he said.

“If there’s a structured competition and there’s going to be regular rounds then we’ll get a reserve team going.

“If it’s going to be like it is this year with one game every three weeks, certain clubs refusing to play other clubs, then we’re not interested. Because that’s not going to help us.

“It needs more teams, structured competition and a system over a season where the players can have the opportunity to play better players in a better competition.”

Henderson said he is a big believer in the benefits of the reserve grade system over the dual-registration concept.

“I think it’s so important. You’re making calls on kids who are 19, that we lose to the game.

“We’ve got to have a reserve grade system.”
