Jonny Lomax ended his 13-month absence from Super League in style, scoring two tries as St Helens held off Leeds in dramatic fashion.

Saints defeated the Rhinos 38-34 in a gripping Friday night encounter at Langtree Park.

Lomax was the star as the fullback bagged a double on his long-awaited return from injury. Joe Greenwood and Theo Fages also crossed for two tries each for the home team.

Leeds never threw in the towel but may have picked up new injuries to key players. Fullback Zak Hardaker was forced off with a head knock in the second half after a huge hit from Kyle Amor.

Brett Delaney and Carl Albett are also believed to be injured from the frenetic game.

Leeds centre Jimmy Keinhorst scored two tries as the visitors almost pulled a famous win.

The defeat was the Rhinos ninth in 2016 and they remain winless away from Headingley.
