Lister swaps Workington for Whitehaven

Whitehaven have signed winger Phil Lister from local rivals Workington.

Lister scored three tries in nine appearances for Town last season and makes the switch on a one-year deal.

He said: “I’m delighted to have signed for Whitehaven for the forthcoming year. After speaking to the coaching staff and a couple of the lads I couldn’t wait to get my signature down and get stuck into the pre season. The squad are gelling well and there’s a positive attitude around the place.”

The signing of Lister takes the Whitehaven squad up to 21 with less than six weeks until their first pre-season friendly against Swinton on Sunday January 21.

Coach Carl Forster said: “It’s good to get Phil, he’s keen and wants to fight his way into the team. He adds depth into the back line which we really need and hopefully he can have a successful year with us this season.”

Forster and his squad visited the children’s ward at West Cumberland Hospital on Saturday ahead of the festive period.
