York centre Liam Salter has signed a new contract with the City Knights for 2021.

Salter, 27, joined from Hull KR ahead of the 2019 season and scored four tries in 26 appearances in his debut year.

He said: “I’m very happy to be part of this club. The club has been progressing year upon year and is looking to progress further. It’s very exciting to be a part of.

“For me, York is somewhere I’ve really enjoyed my rugby for the last couple of years and it was an easy decision to re-sign.”

York, who will move to their new LNER Community Stadium for the 2021 season, have hit the headlines with their recruitment and retention in recent weeks, signing Super League forward Danny Kirmond, London back Morgan Smith and handing new deals to the likes of Chris Clarkson and Danny Washbrook.

Coach James Ford said: “We’ve all really enjoyed working with Liam and I’m delighted he’s extended his stay.

“Liam is a very tough, physical rugby please who offer us some versatility. He carries the ball very effectively and some real intent in his defensive contact. His attitude is first class and as long as that remains I’m confident he’ll keep performing to very high levels.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Liam build a good combination with our halves and other edge players.”
