Ireland’s record points scorer Liam Finn has signed a new deal with Championship side Dewsbury.

Finn, 36, returned to the Rams in 2019 from Newcastle, after dropping down from Super League and full-time rugby league to take up a coaching role at Wakefield.

He has scored more than 500 points for the Rams in two spells, having previously played for them between 2006 and 2009.

The 28-cap international has also played for Halifax, Wakefield, Featherstone, Castleford and Widnes since making his debut in 2002.

Head coach Lee Greenwood said: “Finny was steering us around the pitch brilliantly before play was stopped. He was fitter and stronger than the previous year and it was showing in his performances.

“We don’t have loads of old heads in our squad but the few we do have are a big influence. There would be no shortage of takers if Liam were to leave us, so we are happy that he enjoys it at Dewsbury.

“This has played a big part in him signing on again.”

Finn becomes the latest Rams re-signing this week, following ex-London centre Matty Fleming, prop Jon Magrin and Welsh back-rower Rhys Davies.
