Lewis Dodd to get St Helens chance soon, says coach Kristian Woolf

Lewis Dodd will get the chance to make his first-team debut for St Helens over the next couple of weeks, coach Kristian Woolf has confirmed.

Teenage scrum-half Dodd was due to replace Theo Fages in the Saints line-up against Huddersfield on Friday, but was told to isolate for 14 days after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

But Saints boss Woolf says it won’t be long before Dodd gets his chance in the first-team.

Woolf said: “That was really disappointing, not just for Lewis but for the whole team who were looking forward to playing with him.

“He’s a great young kid and, being 18th man in every game since we came back, he’s been patient and is one of those players you really want to give an opportunity to.

“So to get a phone call like that at eight o’clock last night (Thursday) was devastating.

“The rest of the guys have done a great job in rallying around him and he’ll get his chance in the next couple of weeks.”
