Leuluai looking for final flourish

Wigan Warriors play-maker Thomas Leuluai is aiming to end the season with a bang when his Wigan side take on St Helens in the Engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, Saturday October 2.

Leuluai has been with the Warriors since 2007, but Saturday’s Grand Final will be his first ever appearance in the Super League’s showpiece event and the prestige of the day isn’t lost on the tenacious half-back.

“This will be among the biggest games of my career, if not the biggest,” said Leuluai. “It’s a game that everyone at the club has worked really hard for and it’s especially pleasing for us to be here. Hopefully now we can go out and do a job at the weekend  and clinch the title.

“Old Trafford is a really impressive stadium and I’m looking forward to getting out there in what promises to be a good game. We’re looking to get our preparation spot on and just enjoy this week.”

Wigan will face local rivals St Helens in the title decider and their neighbours have been in impressive form of late, brushing aside Warrington and Huddersfield in the play-offs to secure their place at Old Trafford. The Saints will be making their fifth consecutive appearance in the Grand Final and having lost for the past three years in a row, Leuluai is all too aware of the threat the Saints pose.

“They have a lot of special players,” said Leuluai when speaking to SLTV.  “They also have a lot of experienced players who have been through finals before and lost in final so they’ll be determined to win and we’re going to have to be on our best to beat them.

“However, I think if you asked our fans they wouldn’t chose any other team for us to be playing in the final, the rivalry is massive and everyone is looking forward to it.”
