Leuluai accepting as end of NZ career looms

Tommy Leuluai will start at hooker for the Kiwis

Thomas Leuluai is preparing for a tough Four Nations campaign with New Zealand ahead of his move to Wigan for the 2017 season.

Moving back into the Northern Hemisphere may mark the end of Leuluai’s career with the Kiwis, but it is not something that is stressing him.

“I’m getting older and, as that happens, you know that your time in the jersey is [winding down],” said Leuluai, according to the New Zealand Herald.

“But I understand. I never thought I would always get in. I still have those aspirations but I understand my age and where I am at in my career.”

As for how the Kiwis will perform in the Four Nations, Leuluai believes that they will have to watch out for home side England.

“We haven’t performed the best there,” he added.

“A lot of people underestimate the English, but they have got a really good team.

“There is a lot of talk about [the difference between] Super League and the NRL but, if you pick the top 17 guys from that competition, it’s a strong team. We know not to underestimate them.”
