Leigh Centurions have confirmed that Matthew Sarsfield and Jamie Tracey have been released by the club, with both players becoming free agents.

Leigh coach Paul Rowley thanked Sarsfield, 24, for his work at the club in recent seasons.

“Matthew has made a significant contribution to the club’s recent successes and leaves with the best wishes of everyone,” he said.

“I’d like to thank him for all the loyalty and support he has given to me and my staff and for the way he has represented the club. I wish him well in the future and look forward to seeing him in action for his new club.”

Leigh head of rugby Derek Beaumont praised the loyalty of Tracey, 21.

“Jamie is a great lad and it is unfortunate it has not worked out for him,” he said.

“As with all players it is important to be honest and this enables Jamie to assess his career both as an individual and a rugby player.

“I am sure he will continue to have a future in the game and he leaves with our best wishes.”
