Leigh star scores perfect 10 in remarkable Headingley victory as leaders Leeds downed

Leigh became the first side to win at Headingley in 2026, beating Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos 20-16 to bolster their top four hopes.

David Armstrong – 9
A great evening’s work from Armstrong, who had a hand in most of what Leigh did well in attack. Should have forged an assist for himself in the first half but came up with a forward pass, but that was about his only notable error. Some HUGE defensive plays.
Innes Senior- 8
Senior’s two tries were the cherries on top of a very good showing, with plenty of work in defence. One of Super League’s most underrated signings of the season.
Andy Badrock – 7
Badrock went well, but has his team-mates to thank for digging in as they did after his sin-bin midway through the second half, which he will no doubt receive further punishment for.
Umyla Hanley – 10
It’s criminal if this man doesn’t end up in the England squad for this year’s World Cup. Hanley has been among Leigh’s very best all season, and was again this evening – an assist added to his tally along with a sublimely worked try. A knock-on in the second half his only real offence, but that will be forgiven. WHAT a try-saver on Ryan Hall at the end.
Josh Charnley – 8
Charnley won the battle of the elder statesmen on the flank against Hall, even after his early knock-on allowed the Leeds man to open the scoring in the corner. From then on, Charnley was exceptional in all aspects – scoring one of his own, coming up with an assist and producing a try-saver. Get that new contract out.
Adam Cook – 8
Let him Cook. How good again from the Australian, who has grown into his leading role at Leigh week-on-week, coming up with some huge plays tonight – none less so than his intercept while the Leopards were down a man. Ended two from four with the boot, which could have been improved, but Leigh won’t care.
Lachlan Lam – 7
Cook was Leigh’s standout half, but Lam stood up very well for the vast majority.
Joe Ofahengaue – 9
Exceptional again from Ofahengaue, whose tackle count will have been through the roof. Penalised for a late hit on Lachie Miller in the first half and knocked on in the second, but beyond that, absolutely sublime.
Liam Horne – 7
A shorter stint from Horne in the first half, but when he came on late on, he took a kick from Jake Connor which sealed victory, a big moment.
Isaac Liu – 8
Liu didn’t spend very long off the field whatsoever, playing a big part in a monstrous effort. Hull FC are getting a very, very good player.
Jack Hughes – 7
A solid return from injury for Hughes, another who had a big part in the defensive effort.
Owen Trout – 7
Good stuff from Trout.
Louis Brogan – 8
Brogan’s development this season has been a joy to watch. He was great again here. 7.5 probably fairer, but after a big win like that, we’ll push it to an eight.
Robbie Mulhern (Interchange) – 7
Mulhern didn’t appear to be anywhere near fully fit, and it showed at times. But he’s another whose tackle count must have been through the roof.
Matt Davis (Interchange) – 7
Some huge defensive moments from Davis, who showed his worth again.
Jacob Alick-Wiencke (Interchange) – 7
20 minutes off the bench for Alick-Wiencke, and he threw himself at everything that came his way.
Edwin Ipape (Interchange) – 8
49 minutes off the bench for Ipape, whose lack of care for his own body is off the charts. Barrelled towards almost everyone in a Leeds shirt tonight at one stage or another. The big disappointment he didn’t stay behind Armstrong in the first half when the forward pass occurred, but it didn’t end up costing the visitors. Testament to an unreal collective effort.
