Leigh positive about future

Leigh Centurions are in talks with potential new investors.

Financial problems were to blame for the inability to pay the players’ bonuses, leaving the former chairman and board member Derek Beaumont and his business partners generously paying the players through their own money.

Beaumont has been involved with numerous meetings to try and get the issue resolved.

Leigh Chairman Keith Freer, said: “A very positive meeting was held where there were several individuals expressing their support and assistance to overcome some temporary issues.

“Some financial due diligence was undertaken by potential investors to see if there is any shortfall and before we announce what future funding is required.

“In terms of that due diligence, we hope to move forward in the next five to seven days and progress can then be made quite quickly in securing the new investors for the club. I’d like to thank Derek Beaumont in breaching the initial shortfall in paying the players bonuses prior to the last match to York and to Andy Beaumont whose kind donation helped reduce any shortfall that the club was facing.”
