Leigh confirm Hock will play against Salford

Leigh Centurions have issued a bullish statement, insisting that Gareth Hock will play against his former club Salford in the fifth round of the Challenge Cup.

Salford owner Dr Marwan Koukash has warned that Hock could face a legal battle if he plays, based upon an agreement which the player made with his former club.

According to Koukash, Hock agreed not to play against the Red Devils, as they were still paying part of his wages. The agreement was put in place as a part of Hock being allowed to leave the club before the end of his contract.

But Leigh insist that they have taken legal advice, and that Hock will be available for selection for the game against Salford.

The statement from Leigh reads:

“Following recent media speculation surrounding Gareth Hock’s availability for the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Fifth Round tie against Salford Red Devils on Saturday 18 April 2015, Leigh Centurions and Gareth have sought legal advice and on the basis of that advice consider that Gareth will be available for selection for the match.

“The club are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting cup tie for both teams.”
