Leigh confirm Halifax date

Leigh have confirmed their re-arranged Championship game against Halifax will take place on Wednesday August 19.

The fixture was originally set to take place at the beginning of May, but was postponed due to Halifax’s match with Castleford in the Challenge Cup.

Despite the efforts of both clubs, an agreeable Sunday date between the two clubs could not be found.

Leigh Centurions Chief Executive Allan Rowley explained: “We would have preferred a Sunday but because Halifax play their home games on Fridays and both clubs have been on TV on Thursdays we were left with no option but to play it midweek.”

“Therefore it had to be midweek in between their away games. Halifax should have been away to Sheffield on Friday the 14th August and away at Batley on Sunday the 23rd August. We are at Home on Saturday the 15th August Toulouse and away on Sunday the 23rd.”

“Unfortunately for us since the fixtures were published, Halifax have had their game moved to a Thursday due to a U2 concert being held at the Don Valley Stadium so it gives them an extra recovery day.”

“We obviously would have gone for a Sunday had one been available but unfortunately, as we hope you will understand, there is no compatible date.”
