Leigh appoint Rowley as head coach

Leigh have appointed Paul Rowley as new First Team Coach, with previous coach Neil Kelly appointed as Director of Rugby.

Kelly, who took over from Darren Shaw last season, guided the Centurions to the play-offs in 2008, and they currently lie 6th in the Championship.

He said: “For some time I have recognised a need for this sort of setup here at Leigh.

“With the best will in the world it is impossible to fill both roles satisfactorily.

“I am very comfortable with Paul’s appointment, and am looking forward to us being a successful coaching team.

Leigh Chairman Arthur Thomas commented: “The appointment of Neil Kelly as Director of Rugby is part of our 3 year plan to ensure we tick all the boxes for our next engage Super League application.”

Former Halifax hooker Rowley has been Kelly’s assistant, and was previously assistant to Shaw, having ended his playing career at Leigh. He will now take over the reigns as head coach.

The Centurions have also announced that Tony Beavers has joined the club’s Board of Directors.

During his playing career, Tony had spells with Bradford, Dewsbury and Keighley. Following the retirement from his playing career, he became a Rugby League Referee and Rugby League Council Member. He is also a former Chairman of the Alliance committee.
