Leeds hobbled in Widnes thrashing

Leeds heavy 56-12 defeat at Widnes today has proved even more costly with injuries to Tom Briscoe, Carl Ablett and  Ashton Golding.

All three were injured in the first half and were forced to come off, as the Vikings took an impressive 28-6 lead at the break.

Briscoe suffered a leg injury while Ablett and Golding picked up knee complaints. All three will be in heavy doubt for the World Club Challenge next weekend against North Queensland.

It has been a terrible start to 2016 for the champions with back-to-back losses in Super League against Warrington and now Widnes. leeds lost Danny McGuire to injury in round one.

Things got worse in the second half for Leeds as the Vikings ran in try after try.

Widnes have started 2016 strongly with wins over Wakefield and the Rhinos. Written off by some, Widnes look the read deal.

The Vikings were electric in attack and showed Leeds little mercy. Winger Corey Thompson claimed a hat-trick while Stefan Marsh scored a double.
