Leeds cannot take Leigh lightly, insists McDermott

Leeds coach Brian McDermott insists his Leeds side will not take Leigh lightly in the Challenge Cup.

Leeds were drawn away to Leigh Centurions on Tuesday morning, a tie which will be played on the weekend of the 12/13 May after the Rhinos take on Hull FC.

And McDermott said the match would be dangerous for Leeds to underestimate.

He said: “They have got a great set up there at the Leigh Sports Village and they have ambitions to be a Super League club.

“We will treat Leigh with the same respect that we show all Super League opposition and prepare accordingly. I am sure they will be rubbing their hands at the chance to turn over the Super League champions and will perhaps expect us to go there over confident and slip up. We need to make sure that that does not happen.

“A number of our players have played there either for England or the England Knights so it is not a complete unknown for us.”

Leigh were rewarded with a home tie against Leeds after defeating Halifax in the fifth round. A Martyn Ridyard drop goal in the seventh minute of golden point extra time won the game for the Centurions.
