League 1 round-up: Wright inspires Newcastle, Whitehaven still top & Workington clinch play-off spot

The six teams who have made the League 1 play-offs have been confirmed.

Whitehaven ran in 13 tries in batter West Wales Raiders 74-6 at the Recreation Ground.

Sam Forrester (3), Jordan Burns (2), James Newton, Callum Phillips, Dave Thompson (2), Andrew Bulman (2), Jake Moore and Kris Coward scored for Haven.

Oldham battered Coventry Bears 50-6 at Web Ellis Road.

Liam Bent, Danny Langtree (2), Adam Brook, Jack Holmes, Kyran Johnson, Declan Kay, Phil Joy and Ben Davis went over for the Roughyeds.

Matty Wright bagged a hat-trick to inspire Newcastle Thunder to a 46-22 win over North Wales Crusaders at Kingston Park.

Kieran Gill (2), Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e (2), Muizz Mustapha, Nick Newman and Evan Simons also scored for Thunder.

Doncaster eased past Keighley Cougars 48-12 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Tom Halliday (3), Brad Foster, Jason Tali, Watson Boas, Ryan Boyle, Sam Doherty and Connor Bower crossed the whitewash for the Dons.

Workington Town reached the play-offs as they defeated Hunslet 30-16 at the South Leeds Stadium.

Dec O’Donnell, Fuifui Moimoi, Tom Curwen and Perry Singleton got on the scoresheet for Town.

The top six clubs who have made the League 1 play-offs have been decided – Whitehaven, Oldham, Newcastle, Hunslet, Doncaster and Workington.

Whoever finishes first in the league will gain automatic promotion to the Championship.
