League 1 round-up: Whitehaven beat Hunslet, Clegg shines for Newcastle, Skolars edge Workington

There were a couple of close games in round six of League 1. 

Whitehaven won 16-12 against Hunslet at the Recreation Ground.

Tom Wilkinson, Jessie Joe Parker and Dion Aiye all crossed in Haven’s impressive result. Hunslet’s Zach Braham was sin-binned in the second half for kicking out.

Newcastle Thunder scored 18 unanswered points in the second half to beat Oldham 28-22 at Kingston Park.

Alex Clegg (3), Kieran Gill and Tyler Craig went over for Thunder. Roughyeds prop Jack Spencer was yellow carded on the hour for a high tackle.

London Skolars came from being 26-10 down to win 34-32 against Workington Town at the New River Stadium.

Joe Brown, Mike Bishay, Illiess Macani (2), Omari Caro and Richard Wilkinson scored for the capital club.

Keighley Cougars thrashed West Wales Raiders 56-12 at Stebonheath Park.

Josh Lynam, Will Cooke, Jack Miller (3), Aaron Levy, Lewis Wray, Benn Hardcastle (2) and Jack Coventry sailed over for the Cougars.

Doncaster comfortably beat Coventry Bears 44-18 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Connor Bower (2), Russ Spiers, Jack Brown, Callum Ogden, Jordie Hedges, Brandon Douglas and Kieran Buchanan went over for the Dons.

Hunslet, Whitehaven, Newcastle, Oldham, Workington and Doncaster are the top six sides in League 1 at the minute.
