League 1 round-up: Newcastle edge Whitehaven, Williams bags hat-trick, Oldham win

There were a couple of close battles in League 1 on the weekend. 

Newcastle Thunder edged past League 1 leaders Whitehaven 26-20 at Kingston Park.

Rhys Clarke, Alex Clegg, Lewis Young (2) and Mikey Lewis went over for Thunder.

Oldham comfortably beat Keighley Cougars 28-4 at the Vestacare Stadium.

Danny Langtree, Anthony Bowman (2) and Harry Aaronson (2) scored for the Roughyeds.

Doncaster defeated Hunslet 22-20 at the South Leeds Stadium.

Jordan Howden, Watson Boas, Matty Beharrell and Cameron Scott went over for the Dons.

London Skolars regained second place in the table as they battered West Wales Raiders 51-6 at the New River Stadium.

Mike Greenhalgh, Jordan Williams (3), Craig Mullen, Elliot Jennings, Jy-mel Coleman, Liam Scott and Lameck Juma crossed the whitewash for the Skolars.

Workington Town ran-out 54-16 winners against Coventry Bears at Borough Park.

Tyllar Mellor (2), Jamie Doran, Stevie Scholey, Perry Singleton, Calvin Wellington, Ryan Fieldhouse (2), Russell Bolton and Tom Curwen scored for Town.

Whitehaven remain top of the League 1 ladder, while London Skolars, Oldham, Hunslet, Newcastle and Workington occupy the other spots in the top six.
