League 1 round-up: Newcastle claim first win, Potts hat-trick, Doncaster down Workington

Newcastle registered their first win of the season on Saturday.

Gareth Potts scored a hat-trick to help Hunslet destroy West Wales Raiders 58-4 at the South Leeds Stadium.

Michael Haley, Ben Heaton, Reece Dean, Dale Bloomfield, Harry Kidd, Tom Ashton and Nyle Flynn also scored for Hunslet. Reece Dean and Dalton Desmond-Walker were red carded in the 50thminute for punching, while Josh Tonks and Robert Tuliatu were sin-binned for running in.

Workington Town suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 20-10 against Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Hakim Miloudi (2) and Kieran Cross went over the whitewash for the Dons. Ryan Dixon was sin-binned for the hosts in the second half for a high tackle.

Keighley Cougars eased past Coventry Bears 40-8 in what was a mud bath at Cougar Park.

Macauley Hallett (2), Will Coke, Davey Dixon, Jack Miller, Jack Coventry and James Feather got on the scoresheet for the Cougars.

Oldham came from being 14-0 down to score three tries in the last 20 minutes to claim a 16-14 win over North Wales Crusaders at Queensway Stadium.

Lee Kershaw (2) and Dave Hewitt scored for the Roughyeds. Oldham winger Aaron Jones-Bishop was sin-binned for a spear tackle on the half hour mark, while North Wales winger Dave Eccleston was yellow carded for dangerous play late on.

Newcastle Thunder recorded their first win of the season as they thumped London Skolars 48-12 at the New River Stadium.

Mo Agoro, Keal Carlile, Jack Aldous, Max Jowitt (2), Misi Taulapapa, Sam Luckley, Aaron Ollett and Joe Arundel all scored for Thunder. Skolars’ Lamont Bryan and Thunder’s Luckley were sin-binned in the first half for fighting.

Hunslet, Workington, Oldham, Doncaster and Coventry all sit joint top of the League 1 table with four points.
